Beer Review: Nethergate Stour Valley

Name: Stour Valley

ABV: 4.2%

Style: Golden Ale

Brewery: Nethergate

Location: Long Melford, Suffolk

Aroma: Notes of lemon, heaps of malt and hints of grassiness thrown into the mix, some mild hoppiness on the backend.

Colour: Golden yellow like a summer sunset, offset with a one finger white head.

Taste: Clean, refreshing, plesantly bitter with a mild malty kick. A bed of hops help give it character and necessary  character and bittterness. Notes of grapefruit, lemongrass and peppercorns can be detected through the various hops used. While the mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied, leaving a biscuity dry note in the tastebuds.

Verdict: A decent session level Golden Ale. The use of seven hop varities helps give its distinct flavour profile. Though the malt seems a bit muted in comparison. A typical modern style Golden Ale, best served in a tulip glass for maximum flavour and mouthfeel.

Rating: 8/10
