Brewery: Adnams
ABV: 5.2%
Style: IPA DDH
Location: Southwold, Suffolk
Aroma: Grassy, hoppy aromas with hints of honey, grapefruit and lychees that gives a touch of the tropics to the mix.
Colour: Deep gold, with a thin white head that quickly dissipates.
Taste: Distinctly hoppy, with a firm bitterness coming through, a touch grassy as well. There is a faint caramel quality in the background, yet it lacks any discernable sign of sweetness. Some tropical fruits mull in the background that give the brew a decent counterpoint. It is rather dry, refreshing and as it's gluten free, it is not heavy and cloying on the mouthfeel.
Verdict: A decent quality session IPA, where the use of hops and malt in the mixture is put to good use. The bitterness makes it seem stronger than its ABV suggest, which suggest the brewers have put a lot of effort into this beer. And the hints of tropical fruits in the background makes it identifiable as IPA in essence. The grassy, floral notes to the aroma were reminiscent of green hop beer perhaps this beer would lend itself well to a limited edition one day. Moreover, since it's gluten free, several of these beers could easily be drunk in a session without the risk of stomach cramp. Overall it is a quaffable, flavoursome and refreshing drink, ideal for a hot Summers' day.
