Location: Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
Aroma: Malty with strong notes of marmalade, grapefruit and a dash of hops.
Colour: Orange gold with a one finger white head.
Taste: Orangey marmalade overtones with a fruity sweetness are immedietely noticeable, followed by notes of biscuity bitterness that help counteract it. Hops are present, without being too overwhelming, and help build up the other flavours. Some caramel overtones from the malt give it a syrupy background. The mouthfeel is smooth and nicely carbonated.
Verdict: A quaffable golden ale, that is full of flavour, sweetness and bitterness help combine together to make a memorable drink. The distinct notes of marmalade give it an intriguing adjunct which comes through the choice of hops. Although a homage to American Pale Ales, it is given a suitably English twist. The drink is best serve cool, in order to appreciate the complexites of flavour.
