Location: Bakewell, Derbyshire
Aroma: Mild hoppiness, hints of caramel, malt and a lacing of booziness.
Colour: Golden yellow, with a two finger white head.
Taste: Malty with some notes of grassy fruits and mellow sweetness, this is offset by a smooth and creamy mouthfeel that helps bring all the flavors together. The background strength rushes through from the backend, enlivening the senses with a warming sensation. The fermentation process is the prime player here.
Verdict: A good example of English style IPA, with decent strength which comes through fermentation using the Union process that attempts to emulate the classic style. This helps gives it a boozy and fruity character but without that overwhelming hoppiness getting in the way. The malt has rich caramel notes, although on the downside just relying on Maris Otter make it seem a bit flat and onesided. Another malt variety would have helped give some added flavour notes. Great for a Summers day but not a drink to have in a hurry.
