Beer Review: Victory Ale

Name: Victory Ale

Brewery: Bateman's

ABV: 6%

Style: Strong Ale

Location: Wainfleet, Lincs

Aroma: Very malty, hints of berry fruit and spiced rum are evident.

Colour: Ruby red with a thin cream coloured head that easily disipates.

Flavour: Strong notes of oranges dominate, followed by background of malty bitterness that gives it's backbone and tangy counterpoint. There is treacly sweetness that gives it a slight jammy quality. On the palate a warming peppery effect follows along, elevating the tastebuds. The mouthfeel is disspointing, though medium bodied, the lack of a evident head leaves it a bit watery.

Verdict: A quaffable strong ale that is potent in flavours with a charactful profile that helps give its distinctive identity. The mouthfeel however is somewhat lacking, and impacts the overall experience of the beer.

Rating: 7/10
