Aroma: Profound maltiness with notes of oak and cherries, some caramel notes too.
Colour: Deep reddish brown with a fluffy one finger white head.
Taste: A distinct bitterness with a fruity and malty backbone that helps underscore the flavour, a lacing of hops in the background helps give a distinct flavour profile, some sweetness is noticeable with a faint hint of berry fruits. The mouthfeel is moderately heavy and smooth, not something to drink in a hurry
Verdict: A decent ruby ale that is not too bitter, and allows the other flavours to come through for much added support. The flavour grows on you with every sip, it’s a celebration of British hop varieties and malt which becomes noticeable as the flavours develop, which perfectly underscores the patriotic theme of this beer. Fruitiness is a good addition, which helps penetrate much of the bitterness, although the lack of noticeable sweetness can make the beer seem a tad on the dry side.
